Joel Stanwood

Mr. Stanwood is an experienced investment partner with a strong track record of successful outcomes of building great companies. Having served as an investment leader, team builder, and Partner at American Industrial Partners (AIP) for a decade, Mr. Stanwood brings relevant experience across 9 platform investments and over 20 transactions comprising over $500 million in equity invested in US- and Canadian-headquartered manufacturing companies.
Mr. Stanwood has led and executed on all aspects of the investing process, with experience in deal sourcing and negotiation, and expertise in investment underwriting, value creation planning and execution, post-merger execution, governance, and exit planning. Mr. Stanwood has significant experience partnering with CEOs, developing management teams, investing in people and culture, and deploying a wide range of world-class technology and operational improvement systems.
Prior to American Industrial Partners, Mr. Stanwood was an engineer and manager at Siemens. Prior to Siemens, Mr. Stanwood worked at BMW where he learned to speak German fluently. He is also a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt.
Mr. Stanwood holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M University with Honors, where he graduated magna cum laude, and a Masters in Business Administration from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, with a focus on Finance, Strategy, and Management & Organizations to round out his engineering background.
In his free time, Mr. Stanwood enjoys chasing his four middle-school and high-school children with his wife, Christine, rising early, running, spinning, introducing friends to new wine varietals, traveling internationally, skiing, lake time, and cool “dad projects.” Mr. Stanwood volunteers with Scouts, school Dad’s Clubs, and local church and community impact organizations.
